Abstract:
The last decade has seen significant developments in emerging markets in terms of economic reforms and developments in market microstructures. Due to their high economic growth rates, superior returns and segmentation properties, these markets have attracted immense attention of international fund managers and portfolio strategists. However, the very fact that these markets are emerging, speak of potential dangers and suggest caution in investment decisions. In these regard an ample academic research work has been undertaken on these markets with focus on understanding the very concept of emerging market to understanding of characteristics and behaviour of emerging market returns. The present paper examines these empirical investigations with a view to enrich our understanding of emerging markets.
